CSS Controlled Page Button Highlighting

Have you ever wanted to make the buttons on your webpages remain highlighted when they are clicked and active? I mean, wouldn’t it be great to use CSS to not only make your buttons and tabs change colour when hovered over but to give them a different appearance once they have been clicked?

GIMP Quick Start Guide

Gimp Loading Screen Screenshot

I’m a GIMP user, I’m proud of it and I’m shouting about it. Yes, I am impressed with it. Quite a turn around. In fact, I’m so impressed with it, I use it to create most of my website graphics and animations. Now I know how to use GIMP, I no longer need to use online graphics generators because I can more quickly make better graphics, logos, animations and buttons with GIMP.

Kubuntu Karmic Koala Beta – My First Thoughts

I plunged and gambled my sanity when I downloaded it, burned it to disc, wiped my hard drive and installed it. That was a few days ago. I am now using the beta version and it is impressive. It is lightening fast – It took less than 30 seconds to boot to a working desktop immediately after installation. Takes a little longer now I’ve added a bit of software but it’s still quicker than any previous release. To say the Kubuntu team are aiming for a 25 second boot time, and my machine’s on its last legs, I reckon they’re very close to getting there.

Backing up your Firefox Profile

This is actually quite easy. Although we wont use FEBE, for those who do not know FEBE is a Firefox plugin used to back-up and retrieve user profiles. It copies and all plug-ins, themes, bookmarks and undeleted browsing history (including the cache) then compresses them into one zip file ready to be re-imported into Firefox should a profile become corrupt or destroyed, or should a profile just need copying to another computer.

Installing RealPlayer and Flash into 64 bit Linux

It is a fact of Internet life that to experience all the multimedia riches offered by many websites you must have Flash Player and Real Player installed on your computer. This is perfectly fine for anyone who wants to install Real Player but not so good for 64-bit Linux users who want to install 64-bit Flash.

Despite the increasing number of users of 64-bit Linux, Adobe still have not released a non-beta version of the Flash library so we 64-bit Linux users are forced to manually download and install the library into whichever folder it is supposed to go. Not particularly difficult you might think except for the fact that the download does not come with instructions. Likewise, Real Player for Linux does not come with installation instructions and so this little guide to installing Flash and Real Player came into existence.

Webmaster Site Submission, Back-linking and Ping Tools

I’ve created a free tool which helps webmasters publicise and networking their sites. It’s nothing spectacular, just a simple iFame based page with a menu at its top, links listed on its left and an iFrame on its right. Simple as it, it cuts in half the time spent submitting to directories, publishing press releases, finding directories and pinging search engines.
