Super Easy WordPress Theme Design with Dynamik for Genesis

Dynamik for Genesis

Q: What do you get when you cross a lazy web designer with Google search? A: A Genesis child theme overflowing with options for near drag'n'drop visual theme styling. I'm guessing you're lazy too or you wouldn't have made the same search I did. I build a lot of Genesis child themes. Some I design around existing child themes and others I build around the default Genesis theme. Many of the features and changes I make to child themes are the same: Setting the body background color Setting a body background image Changing menu colors Making the page narrower or … [Read more...]

Uninstall W3 Total Cache – The Proper Way

A few days ago I began the process of removing W3 Total Cache from all my blogs and replacing it with Quick Cache WP Super Cache. Why, you might wonder, would I do that. The simple answer is that W3 Total Cache conflicted one too many times with other plugins. I'm getting old and tired and I'm fast coming over to the idea that if a plugin's too much hassle to setup then it shouldn't call itself a plugin so much as it should call itself a nail in sanity's coffin. You'd expect it to be easy to remove W3 Total Cache. And it should be but it hooks its tentacles into a blog's htaccess file, … [Read more...]

HowTo: WordPress Code Syntax Highlighting

For months and months and months I've been looking for a good code syntax highlighter for WordPress. My requirements are simple: 1, the highlighter mustn't add lots and lots of div and table tags around my code and, 2, it should add a TinyMCE pre tag button to the visual editor. If I had the knowledge and the time to write such a plugin I would. Thankfully I don't need to do that anymore because I've found nearly 2 halves of the solution in two different plugins. The first plugin is TinyMCE Preformatted. It fulfills requirement number two by putting a button into the visual editor for … [Read more...]

Shhhh!!!! WordPress, Don’t Shout About your Break-in Then

WordPress Security Breech

Just in case you missed it, because I did, WordPress.org had a security breech this week. Several plugins were updated by a hacker (or hackers) who installed backdoor exploits into AddThis, WPTouch and W3 Total Cache that may have compromised self-hosted WordPress websites. The official statement posted by Matt Mullenweg (founding developer of WordPress) at wordpress.org on the 21st July, explains: "Earlier today the WordPress team noticed suspicious commits to several popular plugins (AddThis, WPtouch, and W3 Total Cache) containing cleverly disguised backdoors. We determined the commits … [Read more...]
