Welcome to 2010. Wasn't 2009 a hell of year? Come to think of it, wasn't the decade a bit of a fuck-up. I sincerely wish you a much better year and decade ahead. In fact, I know 2010 will be a good start to a fantastic decade; and I'm eagerly awaiting the discovery of a monolith on the moon - Arthur C. Clark predicted it so it must happen. All About the GIMP – A Simple User Guide
In an earlier article I said that GIMP was the most unintuitive, unfriendly graphics package I've ever had to use. Now, since using it more, I stand by "unintuitive" but I think it's fantastic; and I hope to convince you of the same with this little guide to using GIMP. My problem with GIMP was my attitude: I thought it was an arts package that could be used like KolourPaint, Paint or Painter. How to Make a Semi-Transparent Image Using GIMP

See also: All About GIMP - A Simple User Guide. Took me ages to work this out so I hope it comes in handy for you. If you've ever used GIMP then you will know that it's not the most intuitive graphics editor to learn to use. To prove that point, I frequently open images in Kolourpaint (the Linux equivalent to Window's Paint) to make minor edits then re-open them in GIMP to do the bits I can't do in Kolourpaint and vice-verse.
