It's that time of month again when I let you all know what you've missed out on while you've not been visiting JournalXtra. I would have posted this month's review of last month earlier but I've been keeping my very active nephew busy while he is visiting us. Regular service will resume shortly. For now, without further ado (he'll clobber me if I spend too much time on this), here's the round up for last month (ouch!).
Fixing the dreaded "Errors were encounted while processing" errors
The stars forgot to shine on me during March and my (semi) trusty Linux system chose to fight back against me and my incessant software installation frenzies. At one point I though I would need to re-install the whole system but, eventually, a glimmer of light shone through the dark night clouds and I got it fixed. For the sake of your sanity and mine, I've written a guide to fixing common Linux software installation errors.
Linux Software Installation EasyGuide
In line with software installation errors I thought I'd write a near complete guide to Linux software installation. This short reference guide covers many of the package and source code installation methods used by Debian based systems such as Ubuntu and Mint.
Free gimp buttons download and usage instructions and Free speech bubble brushes for gimp
I created some excellent speech bubble (callout) brushes for GIMP that you can use to give your artistic creations some life and a voice. They're available in the download section along with many other free GIMP downloads such as the free button brushes that are designed to make the process of web button creation so much easier. I will add more brushes, including button brushes, over the coming months.
As most U.K residents will be aware, the U.K national (government) election has been set for the 6th of May 2010. Given the current, highly heated, feelings of resentment and distaste that the majority of the British public have toward the current parliament and its many thieving, self-serving members (I feel sorry for the good members), I expect this election will be one with either a very high or an extremely low electorate turnout. An extremely low turnout might serve the U.K a good deal better than a high one - it would force electoral reform and a change in the methods of the U.K's currently unrepresentative political system which is a pretense of democracy better suited to the time it was first created; a time where a better, more representative of the public, system could not be implemented due to technological and socio-environmental issues; namely, people were then illiterate and democracy was a new notion for the then Anglo-Saxon population which had grown accustomed to feudalism and similarly non-democratic population governance and land management (people were previously property of the owners of the land on which they were born or to which they were traded). It was with the coming election that I chose to write last month's 5th article entitled "Woohoo, The Circus is Coming to Town" in which I propose a new system of governance that places the public in charge of the policies that affect their lives and their country's future.
Extra News
JournalXtra is proud to announce it has joined the cheekybingo.com affiliate program. If you look to either the left or right border you will see their banners offering you bingo games that pay you real money. I've been playing it instead of 140 Mafia and can say it's a hell of a lot better given the juicy incentives on offer. I'll write more about Cheeky Bingo in a few days time. Have fun!
